Good morning, afternoon, evening—hello! I'm kokinn!
Today, I’d like to talk about the Web3 game "Sakigake: Sangokushi Taisen" (hereafter “Sakigake”)—
how working adults like myself can enjoy it, based on my actual gameplay experience,
and share both the highlights and the important things to watch out for!
What kind of game is Sakigake? Why it caught the attention of Brave Frontier Heroes players
First off, the reason this game grabbed my attention—
is because it’s the latest title from DJT, the team behind Brave Frontier Heroes (BFH).
“Three Kingdoms × NFT × Web3 × Strategy Game”
These keywords alone set off all the alert bells in my gamer brain.
To top it off, I got lucky and was selected for the Closed Beta via a Champions Tactics ranking campaign!
I’ve been playing thoroughly since before the official release.
First Impressions: Subtle visuals—but strangely addicting strategy
To be honest, my first impression was that the presentation was rather modest.
Skill effects are simple, and the UI is minimal.
But as I kept playing, I realized something important:
“…This game’s mind games run seriously deep…”
At first glance, Sakigake looks like a simple turn-based battle game.
But in reality, it demands multi-layered strategic thinking—
such as troop type matchups, target priority, and turn order predictions.
It’s not a flashy game where you win by spamming skills.
Rather, it’s about anticipating unit movement, placement, and priority of actions.
Imagine a hybrid between chess, mahjong, and the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
Each match feels weighty and meaningful—it’s the kind of game that makes you want to pour your soul into every battle.
Real talk as a working adult: One match a day is enough—and that’s okay
As a full-time working adult, I honestly don’t have hours to spend on games every day.
But that’s what’s great about Sakigake: even one battle a day gives you a true sense of progress.
I log in for a bit daily, tweak my setup, play one match, and then go,
“Alright… I won today!” with a quiet sense of satisfaction.
For slow-paced strategy gamers like me, it’s the perfect companion.
My starter deck and lucky draw: Thank you, Awakened Cao Cao!
Early on, I spent about 10,000 yen on gacha,
and thankfully I pulled Awakened Cao Cao!
He’s incredibly versatile—
with well-rounded stats, skills, and troop type,
he became my anchor unit and the basis for my entire lineup.
Thanks to him, even with my slow play pace as a working adult,
I was able to build a team that could win consistently.
About the Valor Points System this season: If your spirit breaks, blame the system
One word of caution—
this season’s special Valor Points system can be harsh.
If you lose, your Valor Points drop dramatically,
which can be really tough on working players’ morale.
Seeing your hard-earned points disappear after a losing streak…
honestly, it hurts (tears up).
I even stopped playing for about the last two weeks of the season.
But! The devs have said that this is a one-time system for this season only!
We can expect more forgiving gameplay from the next season onward.
About controls: Just use the PC browser version, seriously
This is important, so I’ll say it clearly:
Don’t use the smartphone version—play on PC browser. Seriously.
From the fine UI details to scroll responsiveness and precise target selection,
PC offers a far more comfortable experience.
I lost multiple matches due to misclicks and connection drops when using my phone.
I cried.
Favorite Generals: I vibe with the Cao Cao & Sima Yi combo
Personally, my favorite generals are Cao Cao and Sima Yi.
Not only do they have great synergy in gameplay,
but as a Romance of the Three Kingdoms nerd, I love the historical twist of
“in the end, it’s Sima Yi who unifies the land.”
Just having them in my deck boosts my morale.
About fan works: Caution is advised for now
As someone who loves creating fan art and dot sprites,
I’d love to support Sakigake through my art...
But currently, I haven’t found any official guidelines regarding derivative works for this title.
So for now, I recommend proceeding with caution and keeping creations private.
I hope one day, just like in BFH, the community will be encouraged to share fan art officially!
Hopes for next season
🔸 1. Better matchmaking
Right now, even beginners can end up facing top players.
We’re expecting a more balanced matching system next season.
🔸 2. Valor Point system rework
Instead of harsh drops, the system is likely to become more gradual and sustainable.
🔸 3. New content and rewards
We’ve heard rumors of new NFT generals and additional battlefields!
Hopefully, even casual players will find it easier to keep up.
Quick Guide for Beginners: What you should know

In Closing: A “slow and steady” strategy game that’s perfect for working adults
Sakigake: Sangokushi Taisen might not be flashy,
but the weight of each battle and the intensity of its strategy make it burn quietly but fiercely.
It’s got that gritty charm of “if you want to win, you’ve got to think it through.”
Even if you can only play one match a day, you can still hold your own.
If you’re thinking of joining, let’s get ready for the next season together.
See you on the battlefield!
